| The Kodansha Literary Translation Support Fund was established to mark the company's upcoming centennial and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Noma Award for the Translation of Japanese Literature. By offering grants designed to help overseas publishers publish translations of Japanese literature, the fund contributes to wider recognition of Japanese literature abroad and to overall international understanding | The Foundation offers research grants and scholarships for postgraduate students in Japan. | The Council for the Promotion of Reading gives awards to organizations and individuals who have made a special contribution to the promotion of reading. The prize is called the Noma Prize for the Promotion of Reading, in memory of former Kodansha president Shoichi Noma, who contributed the original funds for the prize. 2007 marked the 37th year of the award. |

| Working with the Chinese Publishing Association, Kodansha takes in a number of interns from Mainland China every year. In the course of their six months with us, the interns experience and learn about a broad cross section of the company's activities. After returning to China, many of them take up key positions in the country's publishing industry. |
